Jazz pianist and composer Thelonious Monk born in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. He is widely considered one of the most important in all of Jazz, if not only Bebop and was one of only 3 jazz musicians to be featured on the cover of Time.

Many of his compositions are considered as jazz standards including "'Round Midnight" and "Blue Monk".
