First President of Botswana born

Seretse Khama was born in 1921 in Serowe, in what was then the Bechuanaland Protectorate. He was the son of Sekgoma Khama II, the paramount chief of the Bamanagwato people, and the grandson of Khama III, their king. He became the first President of Botswana on September 30th, 1966 until his death from cancer on July 13th 1980.
