Pulitzer Prize winning poet Gwendolyn Brooks, born

Gwendolyn Elizabeth Brooks was born in Topeka, Kansas. In 1950, her second book of poetry, "Annie Allen", won the Pulitzer Prize for poetry, the first given to an African-American.
