Actress Cicely Tyson born in New York to parents from the Caribbean Island of Nevis. In 1972, she was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in the critically acclaimed Sounder.

She can be seen in several other films including "Diary of a Mad Black Woman" and "Bustin' Loose".
