Country music singer Charlie Pride born

Grammy Award winning Country music artist Charlie Pride was born in Sledge, Mississippi. He is one of the few African-American country musicians to have considerable success in the largely all-white country music industry.

His signature song "Kiss an Angel Good Morning" rose to #1 on the charts and also helped Pride to land the Country Music Association's prestigious Entertainer of the Year award, as well as Top Male Vocalist, both in 1971.
